Corrections Policy

Updated: 2025-10-17

Trust requires accuracy. When we fall short, we fix it quickly and transparently. This policy explains how to report potential errors, how we verify and correct them, and how we communicate changes on VA Loan Network.

How to Report a Potential Error

Please include the page URL, the quoted passage, your suggested correction, and a supporting source.

Our Review Process

  1. Intake We log the report, capture the current page version, and route it to an editor or subject matter lead.
  2. Verification We fact check against authoritative sources (see Source Hierarchy below).
  3. Decision We classify the issue as a correction, clarification, update, or no change with documented rationale.
  4. Action We edit the article, add a change note when warranted, and refresh the Updated date.

Source Hierarchy

  • Primary rules VA.gov, eCFR, FHFA, CFPB, DoD, state statutes and official manuals.
  • Program practice Current lender guides, published overlays, agency FAQs.
  • Secondary High quality industry publications used only to clarify primary sources.

Types of Changes

  • Correction Fixes a factual error, figure, definition, or rule that could affect a reader’s decision.
  • Clarification Improves wording or adds context when the original was accurate but potentially confusing.
  • Update Reflects new data or policy changes, for example VA funding fee schedules or entitlement rules. When this occurs, we also update hubs such as the VA funding fee guide and the VA loan overview.

Change Notes and Changelog

  • Material changes that alter conclusions, steps, or numbers are labeled “Correction” or “Updated” with a brief note and timestamp near the top or bottom of the page.
  • Routine edits for grammar, style, or formatting are not typically annotated.
  • Changelog We maintain an internal log of material changes for at least 24 months.

Calculator and Rate Assumptions

  • When an issue involves pricing or methodology, we verify inputs, formulas, and displayed assumptions, then update the calculator and its notes.
  • We version calculator releases and note material logic changes.
  • Related context appears in guides such as VA Minimum Property Requirements and VA loan requirements.

Time Frames

  • Safety, eligibility, cost issues: triaged same day, target first response within 2 business days.
  • All other items: target first response within 5 business days.
  • Resolution timing depends on source availability and scope of edits.

Retractions

If a page is fundamentally wrong or irreparably misleading, we will unpublish or substantially rewrite it and add a visible note explaining why. We avoid quietly removing content without disclosure.

Conflicts and Appeals

If you disagree with a decision, reply to the original thread or contact us via the Contact Us page and request an editorial review. Appeals are escalated to a senior editor not involved in the initial decision.
