Editorial Ethics Policy
Updated: 2026-11-15
VA Loan Network is a Veteran owned, VA-only comparison network. We are not a lender. Our coverage of VA home loans is created for Veterans and Military families who depend on accurate, conflict-free information to make major financial decisions. This Editorial Ethics Policy explains how we separate content from revenue, handle conflicts of interest, validate claims, and correct mistakes across valoannetwork.com.
Who Sets These Standards
Editorial standards are set by our leadership team and Editorial Team, with subject-matter input from experienced VA loan professionals and Military housing specialists. Final responsibility for these standards rests with VA Loan Network, not with participating lenders or advertisers. For more about the people behind our content, see the Editorial Team and Publishing Principles.
Independence and Conflicts
- Editorial independence: content decisions are separate from revenue operations. Participating lenders and advertisers do not pre-approve, edit, or veto our articles, guides, or tools.
- Conflicts of interest: contributors disclose any financial, professional, or personal ties that could influence coverage. When a potential conflict exists, we either recuse the contributor from that topic or add a clear disclosure where the content appears.
- No gifts: we do not accept gifts, perks, or compensation that could influence editorial judgment, including travel, entertainment, or “exclusive” access.
- No pay-to-place: comparisons, rankings, and shortlists are not sold or quota-driven. Partner lenders cannot buy a better editorial position.
Disclosures and Sponsorship
- Referral compensation: if compensation may be received when a reader chooses a participating lender, we disclose that relationship on relevant pages and link to Partner Transparency & How We Match.
- Sponsored content: sponsorships are clearly labeled. Sponsors may suggest topics but do not control our conclusions, comparisons, or language about tradeoffs and risks.
Sourcing and Claims
- Primary sources: eligibility rules, fees, loan limits, and core definitions are verified against authoritative materials such as VA.gov, applicable statutes, and agency handbooks. These rules are reflected in our VA loan overview, VA loan requirements, and VA funding fee guide.
- Source hierarchy: we prioritize agency rules and official manuals (for example, VA Lenders Handbook, FHFA loan limit data, CFPB and HUD guidance). Industry references may clarify but do not override primary sources.
- Quotes and citations: when we cite or quote outside material, we attribute plainly, avoid selective context, and link to the underlying source when practical.
Estimates, Rates, and Assumptions
- Assumptions disclosed: rate or cost examples include key assumptions such as lock period, points or credits, property type, occupancy, and notable fees when those inputs meaningfully affect the example.
- Methodology: when tools or calculators are used, we describe the method at a reader-friendly level, including how we handle DTI, residual income, and funding fees. We review assumptions periodically and adjust them as markets, VA guidelines, or typical pricing patterns change.
Expert Review and Fact-Checking
- Subject-matter review: content on complex VA topics—such as entitlement restoration, manual underwriting, Tidewater and ROV, or jumbo VA scenarios—is reviewed by VA-experienced professionals before publication or as part of scheduled updates.
- Consistency with lender reality: while we are not a lender, we compare our explanations against how VA-approved lenders and agents actually process loans so guidance reflects real-world execution, not theory alone.
Use of Automation and AI
- Human responsibility: we may use automation or AI-assisted tools for research support, drafting, or formatting. All final content decisions, fact checks, and approvals are made by human editors and subject-matter reviewers.
- No unreviewed AI output: we do not publish AI-generated content without human review for accuracy, clarity, and alignment with this Editorial Ethics Policy.
Review and Updates
- Priority reviews: high-traffic guides, YMYL topics, and rule-sensitive pages (for example, funding fees, loan limits, eligibility criteria) are reviewed periodically and when agency updates or major market shifts occur.
- Versioning: material edits refresh the “Updated” date on the page. Examples, tables, and screenshots are refreshed as needed to match current rules and typical pricing structures.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly when they are identified and note substantive changes per our Corrections Policy. When a correction could reasonably change a reader’s understanding of a rule, cost, or risk, we prioritize that fix and may reach out to affected readers when appropriate.
