Publishing Principles

Updated: 2025-11-15

VA Loan Network exists to help Veterans and Military families make confident homeownership decisions with accurate, practical, and timely information. We are a veteran owned, VA-only comparison network, not a lender. Our editorial mission is to explain complex mortgage topics clearly, reflect real-world underwriting practices, and prioritize Veteran interests over clicks or trends. Our expertise centers on the VA home loan program and related housing topics. For how our business model works, see The VA-Only Comparison Network for Veterans.

Editorial Independence

Content decisions are made by our editors and subject-matter experts, not by advertisers, partners, or sales stakeholders. Lenders in our network do not approve, pre-review, or influence our articles, tools, or recommendations. When we discuss lenders, products, or rates, we do so because it serves readers, not sponsors. For general policies and disclosures, see our Legal Overview and Editorial Ethics Policy.

Who Writes Our Articles

Articles are written and edited by mortgage professionals with deep VA knowledge. When relevant, we consult underwriters, appraisers, real estate professionals, housing counselors, and Military housing specialists so guidance reflects current practice rather than theory alone. Our team is trained to use plain language, realistic scenarios, and examples drawn from everyday lending situations facing Veterans and Military families.

Expert Review and Fact-Checking

Guides that cover policy, eligibility, pricing, or risk are reviewed for accuracy prior to publication and during scheduled updates. We favor primary, authoritative sources and materials aligned with VA program rules and accepted underwriting standards. For foundational reference, see the VA loan overview, VA loan requirements, and VA funding fee guide.

Sourcing Standards

  • Primary sources first: we rely on federal publications, the VA Lenders Handbook, agency datasets (such as FHFA loan limits), and other official guidance for core facts and definitions.
  • Clear attribution: claims tied to rules, rates, limits, or benefit eligibility include an explicit reference or link to the authoritative source when appropriate.
  • No anonymous claims: if a statement matters to a decision, it must be verifiable and attributable; we avoid vague “some experts say” language.

Accuracy, Clarity, and Scope

Mortgage choices hinge on precise details. We define terms, show trade-offs, and call out exceptions that commonly affect Veteran borrowers. Example topics include appraisals and property condition in our VA Minimum Property Requirements explainer and project-scope considerations in VA renovation loans. When we simplify a rule for readability, we do so without changing its meaning or practical impact.

What We Will Not Publish

  • Hidden endorsements: we do not disguise advertising as editorial content. Sponsored placements are labeled and do not control our conclusions.
  • Unverified rate claims: rate or fee statements must include assumptions or a reader-friendly methodology; we do not present cherry-picked offers as universal outcomes.
  • Plagiarized or AI-only content: assistance tools may help with drafting or formatting, but human experts are accountable for every fact, example, and conclusion. We do not publish AI-generated content without human review.

Updates and Recency

Loan rules and market conditions change. We review evergreen guides on a rolling cycle and update quickly when the VA, FHFA, or other authorities publish changes that affect readers. When a change materially alters guidance, we revise the article and refresh the “Updated” date. Rate pages and calculators include assumptions and update notes so readers can see when examples were last reviewed.

Corrections and Reader Feedback

If you see an error, please tell us. Include the page URL, the specific passage, and any supporting documentation. The fastest way is to contact our team. We will verify, correct the record when warranted, and note substantive changes consistent with our Corrections Policy. VA Loan Network is a referral service, not a lender, and we are not affiliated with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Conflicts of Interest

Editors and contributors must disclose any financial, professional, or personal relationships that could reasonably be perceived to influence coverage. Where overlap exists, we recuse the contributor from that assignment or add a disclosure note to the article so readers can see relevant context.

Inclusive Coverage

We serve all who have earned the VA benefit. We write for first-time buyers and repeat users, active duty families with PCS timelines, Guard and Reserve borrowers, surviving spouses, and disabled Veterans. We use people-first language and scenarios that reflect the diversity of the Military community and the range of housing choices available to them.
